What size marquee does a sporting club need?
Most clubs buy either a 3m x 3m or a 3m x 4.5m. The 3m x 3m is the workhorse — small enough for one person to shift, cheap enough to buy two or three, and it sits neatly behind a bench without eating the sideline. Clubs covering a full interchange bench, a canteen or a sign-on day step up to the 3m x 4.5m or 3m x 6m.

How much is a printed club marquee?
A club marquee is priced as a frame plus a top, so the figure depends on the size, the frame and fabric you pick, how many of the eight faces you print, and what you add — walls, weight plates, bags. The marquee builder prices your exact configuration as you build it, with GST included, so there is no quote request just to see the number. How many sponsors fit on one marquee?
A marquee top has eight printable faces: four sloped roof panels and four valance panels around the skirt. Printed walls add more. That's how a marquee stops being an expense and starts being an asset the sponsorship coordinator can sell.
Valance panels — 4 positions
The skirt around the edge, at eye level. This is what parents, players and opposition supporters read from two metres away. Club name on the front, a sponsor on each of the other three.
Roof panels — 4 positions
Seen from the hill, the clubhouse balcony, the grandstand and anything shot from above. Big, simple logos work here — a phone number won't read from 40 metres.
Printed walls — more again
A marquee with walls gives you more again. A printed 3m full wall can be printed on one side or both. Used as the back of the marquee it's a sponsor board; turned around at presentation night it's a photo backdrop.
Worth putting in front of your committee: a fully printed 3m x 3m carries eight branded positions and is out at every home game, gala day and rego day for years. Clubs regularly fund the whole marquee by selling two or three of those positions for a season — and the marquee is still there next season.

Which frame should a club choose?
The 40 Series Pro Steel suits the great majority of community clubs — it's built for regular event use, which is exactly what a weekend home-and-away season is. Fabric follows the same logic: 600D PVC-coated polyester (12-month colour-fade warranty) for NSW, VIC, SA, TAS, ACT and southern QLD; 580GSM 100% PVC (24-month) for NT, WA and North QLD, where the sun will find any weakness in a print.
Wind on an open ground — the part that costs clubs marquees
Sporting grounds are the most exposed places a pop-up marquee ever gets used. A marquee is a sail on four legs, and the two ways clubs lose them are always the same: not weighted, and left up.
- Peg it on grass. Guy ropes and pegs come with every frame; spare 6-piece stake and rope sets are worth carrying. Pegs are the first thing a club loses.
- Weight it on hard surfaces. Netball and basketball courts, car parks, concrete aprons — you can't peg them. Use a 15 kg weight plate on every leg; 15 to 20 kg per leg is the accepted minimum for an open-sided marquee. Run walls and you need considerably more again, because a walled marquee catches the wind instead of letting it pass through.
- Take it down before you leave. No pop-up marquee is designed to stand unattended in strong wind, and weather damage isn't covered by warranty. It takes two people about a minute.
- Pack it away dry. A wet top folded into a bag on Saturday and opened next Saturday is how prints get ruined. Tops are machine washable in cold water with mild detergent; dust covers are sized to the marquee.
Running two marquees side by side? The rain gutter system joins them into one dry run so water doesn't dump between them.
Funding it: grants, sponsors and the committee
Most community clubs don't buy a marquee out of the general account. What size marquee is best for a sporting club?
The 3m x 3m is the most common club purchase — it shades 9 square metres, covers a bench or a sign-on table, and is light enough for one person to move. Clubs covering a full interchange bench, canteen or registration day usually go to a 3m x 4.5m or 3m x 6m.
How much does a branded club marquee cost?
It depends on the size, the frame and fabric you pick, and how many of the eight printable faces you print. Is a club gazebo the same thing as a club marquee?
Yes. In Australia "gazebo", "marquee" and "team tent" all describe the same product — a pop-up frame with a fitted fabric top. The rough convention is that under 16 square metres is a gazebo and 16 square metres or more is a marquee, so a 3x3 (9 m²) and a 3x4.5 (13.5 m²) are usually called gazebos and a 3x6 (18 m²) a marquee. One product range, whichever word your club uses.
How many sponsor logos can go on a marquee?
Eight printable faces on the top — four roof panels and four valance panels — plus any printed walls you add. Most clubs put the club logo on the front valance and sell the remaining positions to sponsors.
Is there a limit on the number of colours in a club logo?
No. Printing is full colour with no limit on the number of colours and no artwork fee, so a complex crest or a photographic sponsor logo costs the same as a two-colour one.
Can we add a sponsor to a marquee we already own?
Not to an existing top — the fabric is printed before the top is made up. But you can buy a new printed top on its own and fit it to your existing frame if it's the same size and series, which is how clubs handle a change of major sponsor without replacing the whole marquee.
How do we stop a marquee blowing away at an exposed ground?
Peg every leg with the supplied guy ropes on grass, or use a 15 kg weight plate on each leg on any hard surface. In strong wind, take it down — no pop-up marquee is designed to be left standing unattended, and weather damage isn't covered by warranty.
Can our club order on a purchase order instead of a card?
Yes. Incorporated clubs and associations can order on a purchase order and be invoiced directly, with our ABN on the tax invoice. That invoice is also the document most grant acquittals require, so it does two jobs at once.
Can a club marquee be bought with a grant?
Branded shade equipment commonly falls within the equipment and facilities categories of grassroots sport funding programs.
